Denim Day for Staff
Staff are supporting Denim Day which is observed annually on the last Wednesday of April. On this day, we stand in solidarity with survivors and victims of sexual assault. Little History of Denim Day- The movement began as a campaign against sexual assault myths and victim-blaming. In 1998, an 18-year-old woman in Italy was raped by her 45-year-old driving instructor. Although he was initially convicted, the Italian Supreme Court later overturned the sentence. The court argued that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the perpetrator remove them, thereby implying "consent."
The following day, women in the Italian Parliament arrived at work wearing jeans to protest the absurdity of the court's decision. Since then, wearing denim on this day has become an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes surrounding sexual assault.
